[His approach is something Rey mostly misses on account of being crouched down so she can run her hand along the side of BB-8 like a hug, smiling to herself while he beeps rapidly at her. It's been so long, she came to care for him and miss him so much, had just been thinking recently of the chances of the Admiral granting her request if she asked for him and now here he is, rolling and beeping and every inch the bright ball of excitement she remembers.
Once Poe is right there with her she stands back up, still smiling, and takes the time to look him over. He looks just how she left him, just like she'd seen him when the communications had been malfunctioning, healthy and happy, if a little unsure of his surroundings.]
It's not much different since the last time we talked. It's good to see you, Poe.
[And once BB-8 rolls to the side, she reaches out to grasp his arm, just to be sure he's really there and because she's not sure if the hug they had shared on their first meanings is the sort of thing that sets a precedent.]
[ Poe knows there's a lot of the story he hadn't gotten -- as talkative as BB-8 can be, the things that he feels are pertinent and those Poe does can differ quite a bit. It's obvious they're fond of one another. He wonders, vaguely, if he should feel jealous of that quickly-formed bond, realizes a moment later that he can't think of any good reason to be. If anything, he's glad there's someone else on board he knows he can trust to keep an eye on the other.
Lucky, really. ]
Glad to hear it -- well, assuming the situation's, uh, normal. Look like you're doing all right, at least.
[ His grin goes a little crooked when she touches him. Takes it as a good sign, and holds for a moment before he shakes his head faintly at his own sense of trepidation and hauls her in for a proper hug, warmth and comfortable pressure, reassurance in a truly familiar face. His chin fits comfortably against the base of Rey's neck, and he breathes in deeply, exhaling with a quiet hum of satisfaction. ]
Good to see you too, sunshine. Worried about you a little.
[She's just a little bit stiff at first, partly because she's surprised by the hug and partly because the scratches from the harpy that had landed on her back a few months ago now have still yet to properly heal. It stings a little, the pressure of that hug, but the hug itself is enough to make it more than bearable.
After her shock wears off her arms lift to wrap around Poe's waist, she tucks her face into his shoulder and lets out a long, tired sigh. It might be more than just good to see him right now, that's all.]
So you decided to come see for yourself if I was alright?
[She's gotten better at joking, has learned the art of friendly teasing, in her time here.]
[ For a moment, he wonders if he's being too forward -- if maybe he'd read the situation wrong. The thing is, he really doesn't know that much about Rey, though their individual orbits had begun align before she'd left to find Luke. Still, there's nothing defeated in the way she finally settles against him, and so he holds on for a little longer -- surprised by how much comfort he's taking in their meeting. ]/small>
Well, yeah. Anyway, can't let you run off and have all the adventure now, can I?
[ Poe murmurs the quiet retort into her hair. Breathes a quiet huff of amusement to show he's joking, and deliberately doesn't say and I'm sure Finn would have come too, if he was awake. If anything, he figures he doesn't need to.
Eventually, he draws back, though he still keeps his hands on her shoulders, trying to look nonchalant and not worried as he studies her face. She looks ... tired. Still tough as corusca diamonds, but a little worn out nonetheless. He hopes she's taking care of herself. ]
[It's odd to realize that she'd need this, something so simple as a hug from someone who knows her, someone she doesn't have to explain the last thirty years to, someone who has the same frame of reference, knows the same people, says the same things she's thinking. Luke and Han are a comfort because they come from the same world, but she doesn't hug them unless something has gone wrong.
She hadn't realized until now, with Poe's arms around her laughing against her hair, that she was homesick. When he pulls back she can smile at him, appreciate his jokes, and when he leaves his hands on her shoulders she can honestly say she's glad for the continued contact.
Which is new. Six months will make for a lot of change, it seems.]
I missed him too, so I hope you won't hold it against me if I steal him from you every now and then.
[ Poe hadn't been too worried about coming here; worried about everything else, sure, troubled at the thought that he might be abandoning Leia when she needs him too and all the complicated feelings that come tangled up in that, in the sense of frailty with the Resistance (no matter what he might say to Ren) ... but the mission itself? Not so much. He's tough, he's resourceful, he's unflinchingly confident in the fact that he'll do the things he needs to.
For all that ... it's nice not to be alone. He thinks he's glad it's Rey. And really, he had wanted the chance to get to know her a little better. ]
I'll try not to let my feelings get too hurt, I promise. It's good to keep the little guy happy, too.
[ He finally steps back, still grinning as he crosses his arms over his chest, looking far more alive than he'd been when he'd started at the other end of the hallway. Poe nods his head, a vague gesture to the rest of the ship. ]
So -- what are you up to? What's it like? Tell me everything.
[She will be kind and spare him everything, it's all good.]
Everything might take awhile. Have you been up to the deck yet?
[It would be good to sit and talk with him for awhile, she thinks, and maybe prepare him a little better for what he's likely to face here. The deck is a perfect place for that, just private enough that no one will bother them and out under the stars so it might feel a little more like what they're used to.]
Hey, I've got the time if you do. No assignments, yet -- uh, no information about that at all, honestly.
[ It's just one of the many ways Poe feels ill-prepared, but he hasn't really seen much in the way of urgency by anyone on the ship, so he supposes it's just standard ops on the barge. ]
A few times, yeah. Well, enough that it's stopped making me nervous about the whole ship disintegrating. The view's nice, though -- sort of unsettling, but nice.
[ He hesitates for a moment, then falls in step with her, BB-8 trailing at their heels. ]
Here's hoping they don't wait too long. You know, I used to wish I had more downtime, but now that I've got it I don't know what to do with myself. [ He laughs quietly; shakes his head, vaguely bemused by the truth of that. ]
[It's a simple thing to say, but there's a lot of faith in it and a lot of that has to do with the fact that he rescued Finn. They don't know each other well but BB-8 is very talkative, Poe's actions have spoken for him several times over, and she just likes him. Her opinion of him is high, but rightly so.]
Alfie is the inmate I was assigned to so you'll probably meet him eventually. He had a long conversation with Finn during the comms glitch so I think he'll be interested in talking with you too.
I'm sure of it. It'll be interesting to see what they come up with -- I've noticed some pretty rough customers aboard, the kind that make a guy want to sleep cuddled up with a blaster.
[ It's not something he'd admit to most others, but most people aren't Rey. Dimly, he thinks it's a good idea she seems to know what she's doing around here, because he's still relatively lost. Comfortable with the basics, maybe, but it's the margins where most problems develop anyway. ]
Oh yeah? [ A grin; good luck, buddy. ] Well then, looking forward to getting to a little chat. What's he like?
[Six months in a place will do that. She leads him up to the deck with ease and steps through the door, holds it open for him and BB-8 to come out as well.]
It depends on the mood, really. He was sweet with Finn, but a few months ago he carried on a conversation with half the ship about the most interesting ways there were to kill a person.
[ He nods his gratitude as he steps through, his attention automatically lifting toward the expanse of space overhead. Sure, maybe he's new, but he thinks he'll never get used to this startling view. ]
Ah ... one of those guys. [ The mention of Finn makes him glance back for a second, a brow quirked. If nothing else, that earns Rey's inmate a handful of goodwill points. ] Sounds like a charmer. You made any progress?
I think so. We got along well before we were paired, so I think that helped. I like him.
[Which says a lot, because before she came here her list of people she liked was very, very short. She leads the way over to some of the deck chairs and takes a seat, glances up at the stars over them.]
When I first got here I spent a lot of time trying to map these stars to ones in our galaxy, but I think we must be in an entirely different dimension. Nothing comes close to matching.
Nice to hear some good news around these parts. If you need a hand with anything, you let me know, all right?
[ That's his cue to drag another one a little closer; when he sits down, it's to lean into the conversation, elbows on his knees and his chin propped against the back of his hand. ]
Yeah ... I've had BB-8 run through the star charts in his memory banks, and came up empty too. Scanned for transponder pings, and got nothing. Weird, but not as weird as meeting up with people as you remember them from when you were just a kid, I guess.
